Reaction To The Interview

Reactions
The interviewer took a little long to reply. When I received his e-mail I was happy to have interviewed an important person who had knowledge and experience on my subject. His answers really surprised me especially with question number 2. Since the beginning of this project I’ve been thinking it is a career, but now that I know it’s not, I’m just going to focus only as the position. I figured that some of my questions weren’t that clear. I wished I had expressed myself a little bit more so, that I could’ve got more information out of him. He did told me I could ask him more if I wanted to. I will keep that on mind.

Visuals/ Videos

This video about Malcolm Gladwell, who is also the author of a really good book called "Outliers" that I have read, states different stories about how to reach success. If it is a coincidence? or the Experience? I can use this to state in my paper, my supporting side that talks about passion for work and the meaning of it.

This video is about ethical issues occurring in congress and it represents my counter argument which talks about how people have forgotten about the passion for work and become more interested in money and doing unethical actions.

Annotated Bibliography

Annotated bibliography

Fernández-Aráoz, Claudio. "Whom to Pay is More Important than How Much or How." How To Fix Executive Pay. Harvard Business Publishing, 2 July 2009. Web. 5 Apr 2010. .

This is a blog were Claudio Fernandez writes about his opinion on the discussion about how much to pay a CEO. Since there’s been scandals on about abusive pay and the value of the performance, he states that we should focus on keeping what he calls “Greatness” that means the affectivity of the leadership of the person, instead of worrying about how much is that person earning. This blog also explains what are the obstacles of the job of an executive and support his point of view all throughout. This blog from Claudio would be a contributor to my paper by proving me the idea of a discussion and taking a side on it. Also, it is useful to support my other resource about what are the skills needed to be an executive. The blog comes from a Harvard Business Review students and graduates. This is very reliable. It might not have been updated from last year, but it still has useful and important information.

Nelson, Bob, Peter Economy, Kerry Sommerville, and Laura Town. Wiley Pathway SUPERVISON Managing to achieve results. Wiley, 2007. Print.

This resource is a book written by different authors that all talk about business management. It includes a chapter based on ethics and it gives examples about corporation’s CEO like Jack Welch who has made a change in the way of managing. This resource can help me by having more evidence and examples about corrupt behavior for my controversy. It also gives me more background information about becoming a Supervisor or an Executive. This is a reliable source because it is written by an association that has sold many books and plus it is a book I have used for a class of mine that is really helpful with the information it has.

Rummel, John. "Auto company CEOs rolling in dough. " People's Weekly World
19 May 2007,Alt-Press Watch (APW), ProQuest. Web. 7 Apr. 2010.

This source has a database about what is happening in the car industries. It explains the point of showing that while people are getting laid off on 2007 starting the recession, also in the other hand the CEOs from prestige companies are doing just the opposite. They are gaining more power, recognition, and money. It seems as if for each employee lay off means at least a million dollars for an Executive. I could use this to show in my paper a representation of how it’s affecting the economy. This source will be used in my counter argument points also, to show the ethical part about this job. This site is reliable since I got it from a database that the college’s library provided. Once again, it has useful information and it helps me prove my point.

“Top Executives” United States Department of Labor. Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2010-11 Edition. 2009. Web. 5 Apr 2010. .

In this source, it covers all the statistics from the paying range to the outlook of the executive career. It describes in detail the skills needed for the career and gives examples of situations one might face. It also tells about the nature of the work and the work environment. The training, other qualifications and advancement are also described here. I would use this source as my statistical explanation and kind of to give a background about the career. It would help me to start setting up my paper. This source is credible because it has been written by the government. It was updated last year, but it’s not that old.

Web Links

#1. http://www.executiveboard.com/careers/working.html?/careers/working
This web address is about a corporation that helps study more in depth the executive career. It is called Corporate Executive Board and it provides testimonies about the field of study plus tips and information. It is an association that helps a business find service and they work with experienced personnel. The reliability of this website is very trust worthy. It also kind of looks like if it was a college website and it’s updated.
#2. http://blogs.hbr.org/hbr/how-to-fix-executive-pay/
The name of this website is Harvard Business Review and I personally like it because it contains blogs from a variety of authors and the subject related to one another. I feel like if they were a discussion board, plus all the blogs posted are from students at Harvard Business School. They have the subject I want to work on and an idea for me to discuss as the controversy for my paper. I still haven’t decided which blog I’m going to use, but I might say the one from Claudio Fernandez-Araoz or V.J. Narayanan. This website is very reliable since it’s a school for business careers. It’s updated and it even has a phone number and fax to contact them.
#3. http://stats.bls.gov/oco/ocos012.htm
This website is an article from the United States Department of Labor. I would say this is very reliable since it’s about the government’s research. It explains the things that this career of an executive would be involved in and it also has facts and statistics. I could know any information needed from this site. I chose this one because it really does a good job in detailing the job features and it would help me a lot with my paper.

#4 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Executive
This resource is on Wikipedia about what is the meaning of an executive. It has basic definitions and it’s not so reliable like my other resources.

Business Management

The topic I have chosen to write about for assignment number three is on business management. This is the career I’m pursuing and really does interests me because not only I like working as a boss, but I like having things to do. I wouldn’t want a boring job for the rest of my life. I would say that it fits my personality and style. The risk about it would be that there’s too much stress and times where improvised decisions need to be made, and hope that those decisions were for good.

Also, out of this assignment I would hope that it helps me decide if I really want to do this or change my mind now that I still have a chance. Doing research on it can help me find more information like on how has this career grown, the pay, and if there are other requirements for one to be successful. What kinds of skills are needed and what other positions related to it can there be? I would like to move on to the hospitality industry with this business management certificate. I would also like to know the ups and downs this career can have and if there's still a good future to it.
